I'm astonished people do not pay their IBI's - we bought this year in Camposol, we have paid our IBI.

If people do not pay their IBI - they deserve to lose everything. The IBI is totally different to the Community of Owners - I'd suggest people read what the Community of Owners is and how they are set up. Instead of burying our heads and bottoms in the sand - lets move this great community forward, and accept the Community of Owners is a responsibility for the owners on a private road - Yes I will be affected.

Roland, your IBI is extremely low and possibly been so low for a long time. I,m not on Camposol, but my IBI was 126€ yr for approx 12yrs (have had house 13yrs) but in 2018 with no notice we received bill from Suma for 900€ approx for 4yrs of increased IBI to 349€ plus had to pay 349€ for 2018 as well. We then discovered IBI is often re-evaluated approx every 10yrs and as they can go back 4yrs you end up with a huge bill in that year. Yours may just increase similar so be thankful at present but beware.

Regards

Pauline.

I have been paying IBI for the last 12 year's €480 was my last payment..you say that quite a few people are not paying IBI ..why not what's the excuse for not contributing ..and yet this same trash that doesn't pay will complain about the state of the roads / pavements / lack of services and so...

... on...that the council are not providing.

I agree and I’ve always paid mine around €450 each year.
however, I know many people who don’t pay.

Hi,

I agree with you, but is this notice from the council nothing to do with IBI payment. ?

It is a declaration from the council dropping all responsibility to Camposol and what is needed to repair and sort it out.

Can some one explain what  it all means.?

As I see it, you have to pay the IBI, but the council does not have to take responsibility for anything, it just makes all Private, and puts it down to the residents to pay extra to have things fixed and repaired.

If the council state you live in a private road, they have no responsibility for anything.

It really does need a expert legal mind to explain all.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Sorry Roland ..but you are totally wrong on the subject of IBI...IBI is exactly the same as Council tax back in the UK ...it is calculated by the size and worth of your property by central Government ...and is paid directly to the local council so that they can provide the services like ...Road maintenance/pavements/schools/and all other general public services that is required to run a community...( Google it yourself) ... Mazarron Council collect millions of (IBI) euro's per year from Camposol and they are spending it on other urbanisations throughout the county ..but very little of this money that is collected is being spent directly on the Camposol community..you are welcome to correct me if I am wrong .

Hi

Interesting, but if you are on a private road, the council have made it clear, they are not responsible for repairs or maintenance, even if you pay IBI.

It appears the council have been clever in declaring almost all roads are private.

So where do residents go from here.?

We have questioned the above, and it has been confirmed as correct.

Bhamoggy, I  totally agree with you that everyone should pay up. They could set up a direct debit for the collection to avoid massive bill in the future.

This seems just the same as some places in the UK - the roads and lighting etc might be unadopted, but the houses are still liable for Council Tax?

The big difference is that in the UK solicitors do more comprehensive checks to identify things like this, plans for major developments and so on, whereas abogados in Spain seem only interested in collecting a fee and doing the minimum bit of paperwork.

You must look after yourself and regard everything you are told as a lie, unless you have written proof. Some areas are notorious for having problems, but the sun too often blinds expats and causes "Iamsureitwillbefine" disease.
