The one issue I have with comparisons with central Americans and Australians etc I very much doubt they really compare to the number of UK residents who each year spend their allowance of 183 days paying their IBI spending their money  contributing a great deal to the Spanish economy freely.

We chose to have extended holidays here always willing to contribute into the Spanish system and unlike previous comments I very much doubt home owners in Spain voted for Brexit but we continually get grouped into 'well you voted for it group' we didn't the gullible who never really experience ot...

...her countries cultures besides 2 weeks in Benidorm or similar in Greek Islands did.

Personally I will give it 12 months and see how things settle and absorb the extra costs doing double journeys etc and health cover and in my case 2 dog passports at £500.

Should common sense not prevail so its a win win solution I'm sure like many will be forced to sell up and choose to spend our time elsewhere.

Of our own free will we purchased properties in Spain (and all of the other EU countries impacted by Brexit, France, Portugal etc)...in the knowledge we would have to pay for the pleasure ie. the IBI, non resident tax etc (ok so maybe not everyone paid the tax and will now have to)....now everyone wants to throw the baby out with the bath water.....having to adapt to how Spain runs things isn’t Spain’s fault......I’d say once the moaning is done with people will weight up the cost of the IBI+tax, walks along the promenade, a nice glass of vino and a couple of tapas versus sitting indoors in the UK spending a fortune on heating ..... wonder which option will win out...

why would we be, surely just like any other expats from other non european countries we will just be subject to the same rules and at the moment we dont know what will happen with anything some countries like america australia have different driving licenses for each state so in spain they have t...

...o take a driving test and all that goes with it ,other countries central americans only have one driving license for the whole country so dont have to take the spanish test (we have one license for the whole of the uk ????) we just really dont know yet what advantages or disadvantages we will have even after 4years and that is what is unacceptable but im sure the spanish are more than aware of the economic impact a mass exodus or discrimination against the millions of brits  in spain would be lets do what we do best adapt and over come

We will have to see shortly.

But be ready for self preservation, after years and years of Brits spending their money in Spain, buying property, let alone every other item you can think of, supporting Spanish jobs, I would like to think the Spanish government will look after us all, but I have my doubts.

You can bet your life it will cost us.

And having welcomed these Brits for many years a small proportion of them voted to kick the EU (including Spain) in the teeth!

Yep agree, but the vote will affect us out here the most, as we have no protection now, and Spain knows it, and what they will want is money, we are easy prey.

‘We have no protection now’.......what do you mean?

Up to 31.12.2020 the British are EU citizens....as of the 1.1.2021 the British are ‘foreigners’ in the EU and as such have to live by the laws of the land, bureaucracy etc.....I believe it’s called living with the consequences of Brexit.....we knew it was coming......

I think that you're wasting your breath Anni20. There will always be those who love living here, have fully integrated and feel more secure and safer living here than they ever did in the UK and those who came for the sunbathing and the wine and now feel threatened that they might have to do it alone and that everyone is out to get them!

Very true but there are people myself included who do it the other way round I summer in Spain and winter in the UK, staying for the winter in Spain does involve central heating (last nights temp 2 degrees)if you want to be comfortable or an alternative expensive heating system, and using your swimming pool in Spain in winter is a very brave adventure.

Also to be considered you can only choose 90 days in the true winter period of Oct to the end of March hoping that April is the starting of the UK to warm up.

In truth I will change my visiting to suit the 90 days rule March to May inc and Sept to Nov inc and as previously stated it all depends on how the costs add up.

WOW I've never read such a load of sanctimonious words from supposedly intelligent people (!) why in your wisdom of being able to tell others how they should run their lives, haven't you stood up to be counted with the Spanish Councils? I have met many people here who have lived in Spain for up to 20 years and do not speak Spanish! they say they don't need to! No-one knows what is going to happen, but it is obvious even to the sanctimonious that if we non residents do not come then everyone who resides on the costas will suffer. It stands to reason if no one is buying the prices will go up. I am sure we all expect to be treated as any other 3rd world country but we will not stand for being bled dry because of it. I too along with others will wait and see, I am in the process of selling my house so the next year will be telling! Do I buy again here again as I was thinking of doing? or selling up and moving to where our money will be appreciated? I personally do not believe Spain will cut off their noses to spite their faces -but we will see.

So selling, you have decide to go, if no one comes, the prices will crash, not go up.
