I’d be very confident it will change in the near future.
Really.....I’m not so confident that the UK has that sway anymore....

I don’t believe the UK has any sway whatsoever Anni. I think Spain hold all the aces but will realise that it is in the best interests of their own country and their own people to keep the UK onside and make an arrangement to keep things in place which will be a win win for all concerned.

Think this will drastically reduce the number of brits moving to Spain :-(
As soon as Spain realise, trust me they will alter the rules to help all, as they cannot afford to lose the money ex pats bring in.
Its all very good putting rules in place thinking it will work, but in this case Spain is on a loser, and they are only now realising what it will cost them in lost revenue.

I’ve not doubt it will happen but it will take a few years. There will be no holidaying again this year so there will be no urgency which in turn will reflect on Spain’s economy more being the bigger tourist reliant country.

Fully agree, upsetting ex pats means a loss of income to Spain, and they will not allow this, Spain is greedy, and wants the money, it needs it badly after a loss of 2.5 million Euros every hour for last summer, and its no good screwing the ex pats already here, as they will leave gradually, and Spain knows this.
Yes Spain may not give a dam, but its people will lose jobs and income, and they will speak out when it affects them.

Spain is greedy??? Why... for expecting citizens from other countries to pay for their own health-care?? All these problems have been brought about by those very same Brits who are whingeing now, when they are the ones who voted to remove their own rights from being an EU country with all the benefits that this brought them! Why would any country volunteer to pay the health care of people who have not paid into their system? The Spanish health system is funded by those who pay or have paid social security into the communal pot and is not like the UK system of attending to all and sundry on demand. Even the UK is finally stopping the uncontrolled use of the NHS by anyone and everyone arriving in the UK. The outcome of BREXIT was made clear to the UK population, before the Brexit vote and THIS is the result. Not Spain’s fault nor up to them to fork out for non-EU citizens’ health care! Whilst the moaning continues, Spain is welcoming citizens from other countries, many of whom are coming here under the rules of third countries and complying with them without complaint. It really is time to stop believing that British "ex-pats" keep the Spanish economy afloat all on their own!

Blinkered and uneducated. Not worth my time trying to reply to someone so angry.

It never fails to amuse how the UK citizens who post questions looking for advice about moving to live in Spain then choose to ignore and insult the advice given when it doesn’t meet their narrative. Advice from people with experience of life in Spain, those that have been there and done it.
But always nice to hear the fantasists views.
As for Spain altering whole worldwide systems to accommodate UK citizens....naive ....
Trade deals will be negotiated for many years to come. There will be many changes in the future to the rules which are now in place. I am Irish by birth. My wife is a UK Citizen. I have posted this fact before. Please don’t refer to me as a UK citizen. I too am amused Anni, to find there are still people on forums whose arrogance is only surpassed by their stupidity. Well done you x
