The UK still pays for ex pats health care in Spain, shame the Spanish do not pay for those in the UK.

The national health in the UK gives care to any one, for no charge if you have no money, or not a British citizen, thats why it is always short of cash.

Spain is greedy, in finding ways of taking tax from ex pats, look at the 720 declaration, thats if you have completed it as should be done.

They will tax you on private pensions, if you have declared them, and investments in the UK that you may have, again if you have declared them.

The Spanish do not have to declare anything in the UK.

Greedy or what?

Spain isn't the UK. The taxation rules have always been available for anyone thinking of relocating here and for those who don't like it, there's no obligation to stay here!

You keep calling me a Brit. I might look you up when i get over Anni just to let you hear my accent lol.

Pleased you look after yourself.

Good for Boris and the UK, strike up deals with the big boys, its what is needed, if the EU countries do not want to play ball, they will lose out big style, there are big contracts to be had in many countries far away from the EU, go for it Boris.

Yep I agree, but watch Germany, there is a strong underlaying party that wants out, so could be a big surprise.

This Party AFD has just last weekend lost over 5% by the reginonal election in Baden-Würtemberg & Rheinland Pfalz

I think this topic has changed the tenor why it was posted!!!!!

I feel sorry for some of you:

…why is Spain depending on British tourists or home buyers?

When I look around

I see cars with number plates from Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Poland, France, Croatia –

I hear people talking in Flemish, German, Russian, Bulgarian….

The problem in this topic is: it’s just Spain/UK but there are other nationals who are living in Spain.

The Russians, people from South Africa, have and have had the same hurdle to take as the UK after 1.1.2021!!!!

I checked these facts with Wikipedia:

In 2017 Spain had 46,5 MIO inhabitants thereof

4,4 “strangers” thereof

294,295 from the UK….

I appreciate you have taken time to add to this discussion but please don’t include me when you are feeling sorry for anyone, I honestly don’t need it.

Just to clarify / correct a few points raised here:

Income Tax: Anyone who moves to the UK and becomes a resident has to declare tax on both their UK income and any other worldwide income - so a Spaniard moving to the UK would be taxed on their Spanish pension, interest on savings, rent received on a property in Spain, etc. in the same way as expats moving to Spain are (the only difference is in tax rates and personal allowances). This also applies to Capital Gains Tax. The dual-taxation agreement also works both ways. Spain are not 'being greedy,' they are applying the same rules as the UK does; and also the same as they apply to all other non-EU countries.

Healthcare: Emergency (A&E) treatment in the UK is free to anyone. Anyone who moves to the UK and becomes a resident has to pay the 'NHS surcharge' on their visa (£624 per year) and the process to obtain full residency takes five years (in general). Precriptions, eye tests and dental treatment are only included under the rules for each 'nation' (e.g. prescriptions are free in Scotland, but not in England). I think people are perhaps confused by asylum seekers who do not have to pay for NHS treatment.

Foreign population living in Spain: As at 1st Janury 2020, the top 5 (plus select others) of foreign born people living in Spain were: Moroccans - 760k, Romanians - 667k, British - 301k, Italians - 268k, Columbians - 262k, Chinese - 197k, Bulgarian - 123k, Ukranian - 108k, Portugese - 106k, Russian - 82k, Polish - 66k.

I hope this helps informed debate...

Thank you for your response, appreciate the input.

Its almost like Spain doesn't want the Brits here anymore, cutting their noses off to spite their face, but wait till they realize how much they are losing

If it does one good thing for Spain like getting rid of dishonest Brits like the Scotts(Mcassa365) who live on Terrazas de la Torre then it will be good for Spain. Hope it brings an end to them that give honest ex pats a bad name. Karma.

Bit too personal I think, then again free speech is what we are all about.
