Anyone moving to Spain would be well advised to factor in the cost of private Health insurance. I don't think things are going to get any better after Dec 2020.
Hi,
Every one is asking the same.
You cannot use them for gaining residence any longer, you must have private medical insurance.
Brexit, EU countries could, and possibly will state Brits can no longer use them, we will have to wait and see.
No one knows all the answers yet.
But would strongly advise Private Medical Insurance.

Never thought I would ever agree with that know-all frequent flyer, but in this case he is absolutely right by my reckoning. I find it hard to manage on €150 per week for food alone to feed 2, plus 2 hungry cats. I make all meals from scratch, -( no expensive imported English stuff), fruit and veg from the local markets, we are meat and fish eaters , and have wine with meals, but I don't consider this unusual in Spain. I didn't come here to rough it.! Don't these people ever buy clothes or shoes ? All living costs must be included to give a true picture of outgoings, and of course it will vary individually, but there's a difference in living and simply existing.

The EHIC is valid for up to 5 years. Check your EHIC is still valid before you travel. You can renew an EHIC up to 6 months before the expiry date, but any time left on the card will not be added to your new card.
We don't know what will happen after end of Dec 2020 due to the Brexit, and also to whether the present benefits that we all enjoy at the moment will still be in place. We don't know whether there is going to be a deal or no deal. 😥. It makes you wonder what hand Brexit is going to deal out to...

... us all. Brexit is full of uncertainties at the moment.
Fem 90 the EHIC is only valid for 5 year's provided you are still a UK resident ...and is only available for use by a UK citizen for 183 days ..if you stay in Spain for more than 183 days in any 12 month period the day you take up Spanish residence and become a resident of Spain your UK EHIC is automatically cancelled and you need to go on the Spanish system...if you are under UK retirement age and become a resident of Spain you will need a private Health Care Plan in place if you want to remain in Spain...if you are on a UK pension you can at the moment go on the Spanish NHS and the UK Tax payer's will pay for your treatment .

Let's put it this way, sometimes you might not spend a cent, physically, in a week because you didn't step out of your comfort zone.
The following week, you step out, do food shopping to compensate the previous week's non spending. Flag for the request of local bus from one Sector to another when doing shopping, not venturing into Murcia, Puerto de Mazarron or surrounding localities.
I can go on an on, but will leave the rest to your imagination. €150 a week is less than €8k per annum. You need more than that a year to live comfortably in Spain.
To live the dream, one must be able spend to attract that happiness.....

I’m not a lover of retail therapy so don’t buy new clothes and the like. Just been to local charity shop and bought 5 pairs of trousers and 7 shirts for 30 euros .....should do me for this year and the money has helped animals ... can get some bargains off all the selling sites as well.
This is how you can live easily on 10,000 per year.

This is in reply to frequent flyer who asked why I need 4 cars. It’s a hobby and the two classic ones cost next to nothing to run as both are tax exempt both sail through the ITV every year and insurance for both is less than 250 per year because of limiting mileage to less than 5000km per car. They are sitting on the drive and going up in value as opposed to most peoples vehicles .....it’s a no brainier !
The other two cars is one each for ourselves to run about in !

Exactly, there’s always cheap ways of doing anything if you can be bothered. Hats off to you sir
Cameramanjohn, Bhamoggy, we learn from each other from time to time. If you see me wearing one of your old clothes picked up from charity shop, please don't look at me in a funny way otherwise, I will start walking around in my pyjamas 😂
