Has anyone had experience with OK Car Rentals at Alicante? Going out again in a couple of weeks and didn't realise it's half term, so there is a shortage of cars at the right price! I don't include Goldcar or Dickmans in my search (had problems with them before) so I've booked with OK, but can ca...

We have used OK cars from Madrid 2 years running and had no issues with them. Cars and mini bus have all been good quality.

Hi. Yes i always book through DoYouSpain and hire cars about six times a year. My list of decent companies is diminishing, so I hope OK Cars will be 'OK' this time. Good value at 36€ plus 28€ refilling charge for two weeks. As I hire a lot of cars I have my own annual excess insurance which b...

I can recommend Wiber cars. They are new and I've used them twice this year for long periods, and they were very reasonable for brand new, top of the range, automatic high end cars. Unfortunately they can't help me this time, probably because of half term!

I'll update on my experience with OK Cars.

Hi,

So who do you recommend for the insurance as I normally go for the dearer one with no excess to pay up front, do they accept these with paying say £1000 up front?

Cheers

I have done the same annual excess insurance. I normally just put deposit on card, depends on car I suppose but around €1200. Again have had no issues when returning the Cars, but I make sure they sign paperwork to that affect and keep it.

If you google 'car hire excess insurance' you'll have several to look at. I've used 'icarhireinsurance' in the past and currently have it as an addition to my annual travel insurance. Most hire companies  (the decent ones) will block your CC for anything between 800 to 1000€, and if everything is OK on return, will release the block immediately. The dodgy companies will actually take the money and you have to wait for a refund, sometimes months. Just tell them you have your own excess insurance and always have the certificate with you

Hope that helps

Ok, cheers guys, very helpful, so has anyone used this insurance with ok rentals? As ive always used the premium no excess insurance but it’s £30 for just 4 days! They seem very efficient normally so would like to carry on using them as they’re sensible money for automatic ve

I have used ok car hire in Alicante 3 times and about to use again in few weeks.

I have excess protection policy with leisureguard ( recommended by Martín Lewis at the time). Never had a problem just explained that I have my own cover and accept the risk. I think ok blocked €850 on my credit card which was unblocked virtually immediately after returning the car.

Hi, it would seem many if these companies aren’t serving corners (ok included) and they were sensible money for an automatic, used gold car through dys, got the better insurance via dys too, then goldcar refused the insurance and it cost us another 130! Bloody rip off merchants, I need an auto but don’t know who to turn too, any ideas anyone? In April will also need an auto 7 seater which no one seems to have!

Cheers

Paul

Can anyone recommend an honest car hire company who operates from Murcia airport?

I used Goldcar/ Rhodium in August and they took over £180 on my credit card just after I left Spain without telling me. I eventually found out that they decided I had damaged the car (which I hadn't) and that I ordered a new car at the check in desk (which I didn't) . They said too I select...

...ed an upgrade car at the check in desk (which I did not do either).

I spent all last winter hiring cars in Spain. Firefly were the least problematic.

My advice would be - Simply pay for the full insurance and have a stress free time in Spain. !

Everytime I paid the upfront deposit I had problems. Everytime I paid full insurance it was so easy... but yes, expensive !

This year I'v purchased a cheap UK car and have brought it down. Im looking to be saving £2500 fingers crossed !

Everyone seems to have different experiences with car hire, although some companies keep cropping up regularly. My blacklist includes Goldcar; OK rentals; Dickmans, and Firefly.

My advice is never pay the additional insurance, it's always a rip off (take out the annual excess cover). If you hire on a full to empty basis always fill up close to the airport and keep the receipt. Allow sufficient time when returning the car and get it checked with you present and make sure you get it signed off.

Automatic cars are quite rare in Spain. I always try and get one and I have found Wiber the best company to hire from. At Alicante they have a lot of automatic cars, including the large ones.

The law in Spain requires a High Vis Vest for all passengers, but hire cars always seem to have only one. On one occasion I asked for another and was reluctantly given one. They took it out of another car, so always check that you have at least got one!

Good luck

They also require a triangle...check that there is one (or two) in the boot, otherwise ask for them.

The company try to get away with it, as they know it is you who will be fined for not having the correct equipment and not them. Their excuse is that they don't always get them back.
