Crazy, but at least it does allow a person's home and boundary to be protected. I guess the problem with burglary, muggings is unfortunately something we get wherever we live nowadays but Police showing little interest is ridiculous.

At 0.25 am Sunday morning my wife and I were mugged on our doorstep, it was an extremely horrible experience. We notified the Police who attended quickly. We were told to go to the Police Station on Monday. The police experience was almost as bad as the mugging. Making the statement we felt more ...

...like the criminal. There was no empathy what's so ever. The officer made no eye contact and almost made it clear that the whole process was an inconvenience to him. The Police never came to carry out forensics despite the incident happened in the glass fronted area of our home at El Divino.
There is little wonder that these incidents of muggings keep happening when the Police don't seem to take them seriously.
In the meantime please be careful.
You were very unlucky, not only being mugged but also your experience with the police. It has happened to me twice and they were extremely helpful on both occasions.

Mugged twice, that is terrible. Dud the police inform you if they ever caught those responsible? Was it recently, and where exactly?

No, as far as I know, they didn't catch those responsible. My first incident was in Cartagena on the road to the bus station - quite notorious for bag snatching apparently! Unfortunately, I didn't know that! The second was quite near my apartment in LA which was a huge surprise as the police and my Spanish neighbours said nothing like it had ever happened in the area. It was a few years ago and nothing like it has happened since.

So sorry to hear of your terrible incident. I know exactly how you feel about the police. They are a waste of time. They have more empathy in their big toe or not. Take care.

It is national government policy to restrict CCTV as they think being on camera is an infringement of civil liberties. You will not see any cameras in Spain in public places, only traffic cameras. A cynic might think that it suits the government to be able to make money out of motorists, but not ...

It is permitted to have a camera in your home, but it may not show any area outside the property boundary, and if it is a dummy camera that can be seen by a neighbour you must get their permission for it to be there, as the law says that the possibility of being filmed infringes their rights. If recordings are made then it needs a licence.
This prevents anything like the following happening here - not the robbery, the catching of the villain!

They are right! CCTV everywhere is an infringement to liberties. Having been under Franco for decades, the Spanish made a constitution that protects citizens and fall short of being Big Brother -unlike most other countries in Europe. As a result, Spain is freer and more laid back...which cannot be a bad thing. Even though I grant you that muggings are a pain and a stain in what is otherwise a tranquil country

Did the police expect you to come to the police station with the 4 muggers, gagged and bound next morning. What are they doing? If we could speak fluent Spanish it would be entirely different. Has anybody ever make a formal complaint about police, health etc

I had a middle aged man try to pull me into his car about 3 weeks ago by Asia Star. Luckily my husband was coming down the road. I was shaken & needless to say I didn’t go for a Chinese. I know all the mans car details but won’t go to the police because of their complete lack of care/interest. Take care all.

Hi. Could you pass the details on to the local English Councillor, Joanne Scott? She is aware of our incident and another very similar incident that took place the following week. I am sure that she would pass the details on for you. What you describe is very worrying and people need to be aware. It must have been very upsetting for you. Sorry that you had to go through such a horrible experience.

So is having a CCTV camera at your own property not allowed either?
