Good afternoon,

I have a monthly transfer from my UK bank to Santander Bank in La Manga, which i have done for the last 13 years. This is purely to pay the bills for my apartment, but last months transfer was returned to the currency exchange with no explanation. I have emailed the bank and phoned, but no one ever answers, has anyone had any issues regarding money transfer from the UK. I understand there are new bank charges, but surely they will take these at source, after all i am trying to put money in the bank, not take it out.

Your Spanish bank could now be making a charge for RECEIVING funds from your UK bank.

Many are now doing so.

It's probably time for a change in what you do.

Open a Wise.com euro account, transfer GBP to Euro & then set up all your Spanish DD from your Wise euro account.

Wise.com have a superb exchange rate, very fast transfers ( in seconds ) & have a debit card as well.

Wise.com is highly recommended by not only me but lots of others on this website.

Hi Whiterose

I had the same problem with my monthly payment from my U.K. bank into my Spanish Santander bank which I’ve been doing on a monthly basis as a direct debit for over ten years, fortunately for me my Spanish bank emailed me back in February regarding this,  they told me that as we are no longer part of the EU we cannot have a monthly payment going over by direct debit anymore 🙈

What I do now is I save the money up which I would of sent over monthly and then do a transfer from my U.K. bank and send it over as a transfer every few months, which my U.K. bank doesn’t charge me for.

I hope this has explained why your payments are now being returned👍

Hi Pebbles,

Thank you for that, it explains the situation very well. Another benefit of Brexit, just make life more difficult. What a great idea that was.!!!

Just to clarify things.

Your monthly payment was a Standing Order set up by you.

It cannot have been a Direct Debit because a Direct Debit has to be set up & claimed by a company.

Strange. We have had a direct debit payment from our UK account to our Sabadel account for many years and it still goes through without any issue.
