Hi, I've got residency in Spain and received my first vaccine (Moderna) last week. Since then, a job opportunity has become available in the UK for a three-month period in the first instance and they'd like me to start as soon as possible. Can I have my second jab in the UK and get a vaccine certificate there? Thanks in advance, Stef

I'm not sure how you would be able to obtain a covid certificate for two different countries if you have only had one vaccination in each country! In addition to this, isn't the UK vaccinating with Astra-Zeneca, or do they also have supplies of the Moderna vaccine? I'm not sure that they would let you pick and choose which you would prefer to be given anyway. As the period in between vaccinations for the Moderna vaccine is 28 days (although we only were given 24 days between our jabs), wouldn't it be better for you to wait until you have had your second vaccination before going to the UK? Wouldn't you have to quarantine in the UK when you arrive there, anyway?

Yes, it is a real pickle! and I may have to do that but was wondering if anyone had a similar experience and whether there was a way around it.

Currently, you would need a negative test, pre-book Day 2 & Day 8 tests and quarantine for 10 days on arrival in the UK.

Recent experiences of friends and others that have commented on this forum indicate that the tracing activity is more intense now - friends were phoned every day in their 10 day quarantine and also received a home visit.

The UK doesn't recognise non-EU vaccines as contributing to the 'double vaccine' status at the moment, so even if you had both vaccinations here that wouldn't make a difference - but I assume this will need to change as travel opens up. You could / should still get your second vaccination either here or in the UK, for your own protection and the protection of others - that has to be the priority over travel.

Thank you! Am I correct in my understanding that antigen pre-flight is acceptable but Day 2 & 8 has to be a PCR test?

Yes, that's correct. All the info you require is available on the gov.uk website, which is updated almost daily and you can subscribe to the updates.

For the Day 2 & Day 8 there are many approved companies on the gov.uk website, so you can consider costs and reliability (I have heard that Randox are the cheapest, but not the best service). However, if you are going to Scotland, you have to use the scot.gov service, booked via their website.
