If you search with viamichelin.com you get alternative routes down here:

With motorway (toll), or just scenic routes...

You can put on your car and you will get the calculation of fuel consumption

Play with the different options of ferries, it could be that the expensive ferry will be chaeper than driving all the way with hotels....

For re-register your car: we used Taler Felix Conesa  in El Algar (the garage next to time4achange)

For transferring to Spanish plates, I enquired at [email protected] following recommendations via this forum.

They appear to offer to complete all the required actions - IVT (MOT), road tax, spanish registration certificate and new number plates. You also need to realign or, in some cases, replace your headlights.

However, you also have to pay an import duty, which I think is 15% of the car's current value - and for me the total cost was more than I wanted to pay, so I plan to sell my car in the UK and then buy a replacement in Spain when I'move there.

Hope this helps!

You may also have to change your car headlights.

Make sure you find out if they need replacing & what the cost will be.

Some car headlights can be very expensive.
