Rent before you buy.....and do it during the winter. The daytime sun is great but it can get very cold during most of the 24 hours. Spanish houses tend to be poorly insulated, rarely have central heating, and power costs are similar or higher than the UK and maybe Ireland. 

Unless you get a property with a heated pool then forget swimming in the winters here. Los Alcazares has a good public pool and is surrounded by lots of courses but you will need a car.

Lots of social groups and events to join in and mostly open in the winter months. You need to stay less than the 90 days to avoid having to apply for residencia so plan your trip around that period. 

We are permanent residents on Mar Menor Golf Resort and love it here....

Don’t worry about the 90 days: you are only required to register as a foreigner if you intend staying for 90 days or more, residencia is a different thing. The most vital timing is to avoid staying for more than 183 days in any calendar year (total days in that period) unless you are happy to be automatically tax resident...

Keep an eye on the ‘B’ stupidity as rules could change...
