Hi Gaby08, it appears you live in a community. Have any other residents fitted the small internet dishes to their property?

If so, permission is a formality, probably just need to inform the President and or Administrator. It is very unlikely you would receive any opposition.

Sounds like a bit of ' woffle'  from your internet supplier.

Yes, Marianne, I'm sure the information will be useful.

Al, we're in a small community and there are various dishes to be seen on other apartments. I think we are the only British owners so most people wouldn't need English tv. The problem with Compusurf is they won't go ahead with installation until we get written permission from the community administrator. They won't give that permission until Compusurf describe exactly where the dish on a 2 metre pole will be. Understandably they don't want it being an eyesore.

We are very wary of using anything that could possibly be regarded as illegal which is why we thought Compusurf would be a safe option - if only they would reply and tell us where they are going to stick their pole!!

Yes, you've got to try and see the funny side, especially in Spain!

I'll let you know if we have any success with getting English tv and how we did it.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful information.

Hi Gaby08 and all interested.

From the information written , Compusurf Internet are not acting professionally.

When I first inquired to my internet supplier they did a survey of my address on their software in their office before they came to my home to confirm signal strength possibility.

Then they came to my home carried out a trial to see what signal strength they could offer me and agree the best location point. Finally asking for my go ahead. Only on completion did I pay the 35€ fitting fee.

So if these internet suppliers cannot give you the basic information you need find another.

Your community might make things difficult for you but at the end of the day there is not a lot they can do.

You have the right to internet connection, albeit if reception is possible your little dish can perhaps be placed out of view or say not prominant.

But at the end of the day, you have the right to reception.

I had similar argument but with a 1.4m dish.

I was threatened by the President who shouted at the top of his voice " I"ll get my men to rip it down and beat you up".

I took him to the local court after lots of neverending argument together with the administrator and copies of their threatening letters they had sent me.

Now my dish is still installed 7 years later cos I won, cost me 185€ for an hours work with an Abagado attending court with me.

Now everone has dishes installed on the community.😊

I dont suggest you need to embark on such action, but your administrators are there to act for you, to help you, they have no authority in Spanish Law full stop!

No authority to cause you distress , discipline you, or act like bully's.

So there is no need to fear them or be nervous, they should be there to help you.

Its almost umbelievable that they have not offered to come to your home to agree a location with your internet provider. If they are that concerned, why not?

I now only deal with the President which is all I have to do under the Horizontal Property Laws.

He, and only he can direct me according to Spanish Law. Fortunately for me I took the time to study the HPL after my experience because he unfortunately doesn't have much of a clue, bless him.

Most expats do not understand the role of administrators .

They have no legal stranglehold over you in your community, acting as administrators they have to be impartial.

A community  administrator is not necessary on a community, although a good one (rare) can be useful.

Anyone over 18 years old can be an administrator, even a girl or boy living elswhere as no qualification is necessary.

I belong to a club where many Presidents do not employ the high cost administrators preferring instead to save the cost and either use a volunteer or use a Gestor as and when needed , saving thousands per year.

So what I suggest is find a recommended internet installer locally who is really interested in helping you and bear in mind if you still get community grief usually one letter from a Solicitor (Abagado) to the Adminisrtator/President will usually stop the grief.

Trust this info helps you and others.

Thanks for all the very useful information and advice.

When we visit next week we will try and find an alternative to Compusurf.
