We retired to Bolnuevo 15 years and love it here.

The mountain behind the village makes a big difference to the weather.

In the summer as you drive around the mountain inland towards Mazarron, the temperature usually goes up by several degrees C. Here we rarely get above 32 - 34C in the shade.

And just the opposite in the winter. We have never had a frost here and only twice has the winter night temperature dropped below 6C. February is the coldest month but even then daytime temperatures are usually in the 20's.

The village is very crowded from mid-July to end of August and parking is manic as lots of people come down from Madrid to escape the heat - so we always walk down to the village (we live just above the chapel). In summer there is a very frequent Dotto train along to Puerto and its is very cheap (€6 return for 2 pensioners!) and it runs until midnight - so it's not worth taking the car for a night out.

But if we stay in the village, we walk down in the evening around 8 to 9 pm to sit and have a beer or a snack ore even dinner by the beach.

We keep Spanish times so siesta after a late lunch snack, go to the beach for a swim at 7pm and don't usually dine until well after 8pm. The restaurants don't fill up until well after 9pm and eating in the open by the beach it is cooler. A lovely time of day.

Out of season it is very quiet and only a few of the bars and restaurants remain open. But parking is easy!!

However if you want "little England in the sun" Bolnuevo might not be for you.
