This forum does send notifications of Private messages as I get them a lot myself.
If you are not receiving a reply it could be that the person you are messaging is not picking up the messages.
If you look above top right you will see an envelope icon. Click on this and all your messages are there and it will say if they have been read or not. You may already have looked there but I find that while most members will respond to a PM some won't for whatever reason, but it's not that they are not being notified.
Sometimes messages can go into the spam folder so it's always worth members checking there if they feel they are not getting certain emails.
I will send you a test message and you should get a notification.

That's because the recipient hasn't opened it yet.
