Hi

Have just bought a small 2 bed apartment with an a/c unit in each of the bedrooms.

This will be our first summer in the apartment and am wondering if I should get a third unit for the lounge?

Hubby thinks the lounge will be cool if we leave the bedroom doors open and the bedroom units will cool the lounge.

I'm not so sure and also am concerned that the bedroom units will be overworked and eventually break by doing this.

Am I better off getting a unit for the lounge?

No experience of AC so am a bit clueless.

Thanks in advance

Your Hubby's suggestion would work to an extent, but not very efficient. You might even try just one of the bedrooms units being on and shutting the other bedroom door on the one that's off. Obviously the effectiveness would be dependent on how hot/cold the ambient temperature is at the time. I'd be more concerned about the electric bill using these methods more than anything. Therefore what I'm saying is, you have a short term fix at hand, but better to think about installing a unit for the living area as it would likely need to be more powerful than the bedroom units anyway - e.g. you might have two 2Kw units in the bedrooms but need a 2.5Kw for the living area. Probably cost about 600 - 700 euros installed.

Why not wait until the summer and try various methods, then if nothing succeeds buy a new unit for the lounge, I doubt whether it is very often, but maybe your hubby is right

Am tempted to wait but am not sure how easy it is to get an installer if am feeling the heat while am there.  Booked to head over in June for three weeks.  Love the hot weather but not in my home.

I understand your concerns about the heat, however you will find most of the ac companies will install in matter of days

Am keeping my options open about the A/C

In the meantime would anyone have a recommendation for a good A/c installer if I end up needing one

You will find most places you buy your ac from will also install.

Shops like Leroy Merlin, Carrefour, and Mediamark all supply and fit, however there are many other suppliers.

You could look up these companies online and get an idea of prices before you come out.
