Hi folks I have been charged €183 for opening a bank account. Can this be right

Depends who you paid.
You can open & use certain bank accounts for free.
Use the search box at the top of this page & search for 'Banking' & 'Free Banking'.

Perhaps you bought some house insurance or something? Bank clerk always selling something, I found a bit strange but this is what their doing here.
Normal bank account opening is free of charge.

Looks like they have opened a Cajamar bank account where you hold shares in the bank or something.
Bit naughty really as this is not a totally free to use account.
They should have opened a Cajamar Wefferent account which is totally free to use as long as you do everything online.
It also has a free to use debit card.
