I notice on this forum a lot of people knock Sabadell. They seem to be one of the few Spanish Banks where one can have a Sterling account with a very small interest. As Barclays I.o.M. are putting their minimum account holding at £100,000 I need to change. Remarks please !

We have been with Sabadell for years and can't praise them enough. In all those years, we have never paid one cent in charges. Apart from having 4 accounts with them, my hubby and I have 4 credit cards and 2 debit cards on which we have never had to pay annual charges. We do have our home insurance with Sabadell but their offer was also better than all the other offers that we received, so a win-win situation for everyone. My hubby and I are both pensioners with Spanish and UK state pensions being paid into the account each month and don't have any other income. I'm 100% happy with Sabadell and would recommend it.

Thanks for your reply. Bit different from the usual posts about Sabadel!

Hi B
We opened our accounts with Sabadell when we purchased our house in 2019. At the time we were residents in UK and it served us perfectly.
However, since becoming Spanish residents the account fees were too high for us to maintain our account with them.
I must say that in al the time we had accounts with them, we never had a problem. They were opened without fuss, if we ever needed to contact them or visit a branch it was never an issue and they were always most helpful. They have a very good banking app and their main website is very easy to use.
I have no reason to knock them and if it hadn't been for their fees we would still be using them.
We now use N26 for our main Spanish day-to-day banking as they are fee-free.
You might want to consider Wise as they offer account holding in Euro, GBP, USD and many other currencies (I use them for holding Sterling and Euros). You can set up direct debits and all without fees. They also offer very low rate currency transfers too.

Not surprised they don’t charge you with all the accounts, policies etc you have between you. But it’s a different story if you’re a single pensioner with one account. I was told if I put 700€ minimum a month, I wouldn’t be charged, which I do. Then they just started taking charges and said if I took out insurance then they would stop the charges. Blackmail? Plus I don’t like discussing my affairs at the cash desk in front of queues of impatient people when I have made an appointment to see someone. Just saying ....

Must admit I’ve been with Sabadell since it changed from Cam Bank, very disappointed over last 2 years. Expensive, and online services not very user friendly. Expensive for an international transaction 32 euros. Opening times in the morning, very bad, I over in Spain soon, and I’ll be kicking them into touch. Not happy with them

Sabadell didn't change from Cam Bank. Sabadell was one of Spain's largest banking entities and they took over the failed Cam Bank in 2011. If they hadn't, Cam Bank would have closed down and your branch would have probably disappeared. I know what you mean though. I used to have a fantastic bank account which was free and the staff wonderful and knew everyone personally and then it was taken over by the Bankía group, who closed my branch down and sent us all down the road to a branch of another bank that Bankía had also taken over and it was terrible. We moved to Sabadell after that and have been very happy with it so far!

It depends on individual circumstances as to how you review Sabadell. It might be fine if you're a resident in Spain, I don't know as I wasn't when I was with Sabadell. Their charges were/are very high for what they do. If you buy products from them such as insurance they do waive the fees as they get commission etc, but I found their premiums to be too high and non competitive.
Being in the UK I found contacting them impossible as they never responded and my personal visits to the branch at the port took forever! I wish I had left them sooner!

Absolutely agree, I’m in the Uk, I’ve got to come over to my branch to close down certain DD and insurance, that are extremely difficult on line. Also as you say internet service not very user friendly, and to try and talk on the phone is impossible. I’ll be glad when I’ve left them, although I’ve researched that it’s going to cost me a fee, which I find remarkable,
