Hi Ginger

How do they determine the cost of individual mail items if they ship that way?

Unsure, but to the ?Royal Mail it is just an item of postage, the same as any letter collected in the U.K. I would assume the shop has a pricing guide for different sizes if envelope and parcel, they take a percentage for being an agent the rest goes to the main carrier eg FedEx. I hope someone can confirm or correct this. Royal Mail, other than final delivery, is a very small player in the operation.

It sounds to me like a recipe for big problems with so many fingers in the pie.

Who sorts things out when a parcel goes missing I wonder.

Hi , you can get a PO Box at the post office in Puerto Mazarron I it costs around 80/90 euros per year , but if a letter gets to the post office they are meant to keep hold of it for two weeks . It dose mean you have to go there at least once a fortnight .

The Correos is very reliable and cost effective. I have sent parcels cheaply and easily to the UK on the tracked service.

Hi - that is very good to now.

We used Best Wishes this morning to send a parcel and a letter.

The lady in the shop was extremely grumpy and unhelpful - typical British customer service I thought - not a good impression for a first time customer.

The parcel which weighed about 275grams cost €9.50 which we thought was extremely expensive, but don't know how it compares to Correos.

Obviously comparing with UK postage prices is folly as post seems a lot more expensive here in Spain.

Probably try Correos next time even though we have been told that their post can be a bit unreliable - again no experience as of yet so cannot comment and if you have had good experience with them that is good enough for me to give them a try.

It all depends size etc and also the speed and tracking but 275 grams is pretty light. So probably depends on dimensions. Certainly if I was sending intl standard tracked large letter/small parcel from the UK to Spain it would cost in the region of a ten quid with Royal Mail. Bit cheaper if printed matter. The Correos in the port shuts at two or two thirty, I think. Monday to Friday.

Just a quick update - the package that we sent from Best Wishes on 30th November still hasn't reached the recipient as of today (10th December).

Considering they state it is flown into UK next day then put into the UK mail system, I think it would have been quicker to take it in a rowing boat!

Next time we will definitely be using Correos as a speed comparison.
