According to the latest bus timetable I picked up the other day, the bus company has reduced the bus service from Corvera to 2 a day, each way. The routes have changed too! For anyone in my neck of the woods. La Ribera, Lo Pagan & San Pedro, you have to take the bus that goes through LA etc....This new route will nearly double the journey time to/from the airport! The fare is 10 euros. Unfortunately, I didn't have this information before booking a flight to Covera in June.

I recently travelled to/from La Ribera/Alicante airport. The bus stop is easy to find and the fare very cheap. It cost 5 euros 19c with Globalia. It is a long journey, but their buses are very comfortable. I have a feeling I will be flying in/out of Alicante more often as the bus service is more frequent & reliable, than the ad hoc service they run at Corvera.

I remember the early days of Alicante Airport in the late 70's early 80' s.

It was then just a small commercial building smaller than the old San Javier military airport which is now closed for commercial traffic.

Alicante airport seen from just after take off was surrounded by miles of fields with one little road running to Guardamar/ Torrevieja, no street lights anywhere.

Buses in them days? You got to be kidding!

Taxi if you were lucky and definitely no English spoken then.

When we emigrated to Spain in 2011 there were no dual language signs at Alicante Airport either all in Spanish with a reluctance to add English.

The buses at Covera have been reduced hopefully temporarily because many were running empty.

Covera has been licensed to develop into an International Airport. Not many locals or Europeans know this.

Covera is in the early stages of development, it should develop into one of the best airports as it is centrally placed midway between Almeria and Alicante and for many travellers will reduce their commute times to their holiday destination. Close to the Calida motorways and the E15/AP 7.

It took Alicante twenty years and after a substantial rebuild to get to their status enjoyed today.

It will happen, perhaps not in my remaining years, but Covera plans for the future are grand. They have only been up and running for a few months, they have to be given chance and a reasonable time to implement their plans.

Anyway, Taxi fares work out cheap if there are three or four in a group at 40/50€ each way, personal drop off door to door service.

Bus? Not me. Coaches are for touring I don't want to lump luggage round on a bus! I would rather pay for the comfort of door drop off with my luggage.

A bus or a tax for the price of a menu del dia each?

Definitely taxi !

Enjoy your stays in Spain albeit from Alicante and a bus tour humping your cases around.

Regards

I'm not convinced Corvera will be a success. Since the lovely little san javier airport closed it's doors, Alicante is the first choice for everyone I know. I only know of one couple who have used corvera and they had a negative experience. A taxi from Corvera would cost me a bit more than a meal out (I often travel alone), so I'm more than happy to take the bus home. Whether it turns up or not is another thing!

Love Corvera as I did San Javier, both easy to get to, hate the journey to Alicante, I know many people who love Corvera (and a few who don't) but  they always have the choice of flying in and out of Alicante.

Why will people not give Corvera a chance. It's still very early days. I have used the Corvera airport three times so far. Very pleased with the whole experience.

No amount of negative remarks is going to result in San Javier opening again. It was only ever a temporary measure. Its first and foremost a military base.

So get over it and give Corvera a chance.

Think of all the time and money it's taken to get Alicante to its present state. Not the best airport I've ever been too. Miles to walk through an almost empty terminal.

Progress and change is inevitable.

If they don't like Corvera then nobody is twisting anybody's arm to use it, let them keep using Alicante, you can't please all of the people all of the time.

More people would use corvera if they had a reliable bus service. The timetables keep changing. Not everyone wants to hire a car!

San Javier wasn't out in the sticks. Lol. My original post was to draw attention to the irregular bus service from Corvera and the ever changing timetables and routes. I was also trying to help others by sharing my own experience of travelling for the first to Alicante airport. I hope others share their experience here of travelling to either airport by public transport.

We also did not know the time tables had changed and waited 45 mins for a bus that never turned up.  We also wasnt on time to take the bus from airport to La Ribera. So taxi both ways. It's a shame having the additional costs means weekend visits are a thing of the past. We are going to Alicante and car hire next time. If it all works out we may stick to Alicante.
