The UK is not a "third-world country". It is known as a "third country", meaning that it is a non-EU country! It should not be forgotten that Spain is a member of the EU and the EU as a group, has made the rules regarding the entry and staying rules regarding third country citizens and not the in...

...dividual countries, who must abide by the rules that they have agreed to.

UNHELPFUL!

"Errrrm like the driving license rule. Funny how you had to have a Spanish one and now you don’t."

If you are a resident of Spain then you still must. The only change is that you can exchange your valid UK licence for a Spanish one.

Quite right....there are still some angry people out there unfortunately. To say we (British) should not be a special case is to ignore the fact that we give  EU citizens 180 days in one hit so why not reciprocate? It'll happen soon I think as Spanish tourism is just being hit too hard (Port...

...uguese too).

There is a line that staying in any Schengen country will be subject to the rules if that country.

Alot if what is being proposed is already available via the airlines but as in the UK not easily accessible to border control.

Spain can change it's visa system to one that is in its own interest, the main complaint being the inability to 'winter' or 'summer' in Spain for more than 90 days, which does affect a significant number people

Don’t worry the U.K. will soon be a third world country the way things are going.

There are significant differences between EU Passport Holders and Non EU passports Holders as we know. Even within Schengen, countries can apparently set their own rules, and part of the problem with the EU that has been carried forward is many countries allow people from former colonies to reside in their 'mother' countries and issuing them ID cards meant the freedom to travel and reside anywhere in the EU.

Your wife is a Dutch passport holder, my suggestion is you explore the possibility of both you and your daughter getting Dutch passports and effectively becoming EU citizens with dual nationality.

This would give easier rights on Spain but you would remain subject to Spanish Residencia rules.

We flew into Corvers last week on the 27th March and it was the usual look and flick through the passport then stamp.

Flying home yesterday 6th April the  passport was scanned with a check of the screen, and a stamp in the passport before letting us through to the departures lounge.

The process took significantly quicker than a passport scan and back end check in the UK.

Yes the process will be slower in terms of an individual check, maybe there will be more desks...

Will be interesting to see how the egates work.

Oh for the days when none of these problems existed. Life is about progress, making thinks easier and less stressful. Unfortunately the reverse has happened.
