PLEASE .... DO NOT use Goldcar, or their other company, Interent. . Read their "true" reviews on car hire websites. They will try every way to rip you off, from fabricating scratches on cars, to trying to frighten you into buying their incredibly expensive insurance. Refuse ALL of their extras .....

........  or even better .... NEVER EVER book with them.

PLEASE PM me if you you need more info, or proof of what they tried to do to me.

Good luck.

Totally agree, they are an awful company, from experience of living here for many many years and family & friends who have used them in the past. They are cheap online for a reason - they add on and add on etc etc.

I think you'll find that anyone who takes out Goldcar's insurance package will have had zero problems. Cutting corners on insurance will lead to all kinds of issues. I've been using them for 10/15 years and found them efficient, helpful and professional. Check what your insurance covers beforehand. Goldcar's is expensive but you're guaranteed a hassle free holiday.

PS. By all means give your opinion, but don't tell people "don't use Goldcar" because there are other views.

Well having to buy THEIR extra insurance package to be hassle free says it all

Totally agree Marksy

I’ve been hiring cars for over 15 years and Goldcar is definitely the one to stay away from, I have had the experience on more than one occasion, I gave them a second chance several years later, never again.

I would rather pay slightly more with a reputable company and not having butterflies in my stomach returning the car.

If you buy the premium insurance you won’t have any problems with any car hire company (Hopefully)

But why should you? I’ve saved thousands of pounds/ Euros by having my own insurance.

They give you the choice

I now only use Centauro or Firefly (Second choice) they get to know you and my last hire was actually 2 groups higher at no extra cost, in summer myself and wife hired two cars one with an earlier date return as friends came over to visit us,were going home totally forgot to take the car back, and got a phone call to remind me, took car back and no extra charge as I returned it within a couple of hours, (I have the proof of this) how’s that for service!

Thanks Centauro

I won’t be making that mistake again.

Sean, ok, I agree if you take their expensive insurance, you may be ok. BUT, they ripped me off,  illegally and would not provide the Complaints book, despite police intervention !! You have had good dealings with them..   lucky you .... do your work for them  please??...... look at the independent reviews ... they are THE WORST car hire company in several areas of Europe !

They are a company who train their personal to frighten customers to make them take out extra payments.

DO NOT USE THEM  .... They are crooks   !!

Guys, if you're using your own insurance you must be very clear on what exactly is covered, is there an excess, etc., so there will be no surprises when you return the car. Most issues arise from lack of clarity in this area. Of course I accept that people have bad experiences but I'm not getting into taking photos of every little mark on the car etc. Life's too short. 😊

I believe you but the question is what does it cover. There are many levels of cover. Goldcar themselves have different levels of cover, depending on what you are paying. My point was that people don't clarify with Goldcar what exactly is covered before taking out the car. End. 🙄.

The policy covers the driver not the car, as the car is insured with the hire company with an excess. Even covers lost keys punctures breakdown costs etc.so what ever the hire company charge the hirer out of the credit card block the insurance company reimburses the person insured, but but provide written documentation of what the hire company is charging and what for.

There is no excess to pay and doesn't affect any no claim bonus.

I always tell the car hire company I have my own insurance just put a block on my credit card, Goldcar are notorious of trying to tell people that you could end up paying for the full car cost which is untrue.

All for around £44 a year, so if I hire a car x6 times a year x many years I have saved thousands of euros, also of which Goldcar haven’t bullied me into taking out their full insurance cover.

Hope that clarifies things a little

If you are unsure read some of the polices available

Exactly Mrsubby .... maybe soon Sean will begin to understand where we are coming from. Goldcar are crooks and the more people that understand that and do not ever use them,  the better !!
