Just had a quick look at this type of account and it’s for people that don’t go into the bank it’s all online. If you need to go into the bank and talk face to face then you pay a fee. So we are better of as we are.

Yes Karen, it is online, but how often do you need to go into the bank? If all bills are on direct debit, you withdraw cash or deposit cash by atms, why need to go in?. Like Roland I cant even remember the need to visit a bank in person(after opening the account) in the past 20years. I,m non resident too, have 5 bank accounts in Uk and never been in a single branch. I change banks every year to get their "incentives" to switch, everything done online and several savings accounts, all online. I,ve virtually run out of banks now as been with all.Think hard because you "may" think you need the face to face service because its a habit, but do you? Btw, if you do a face to face transaction its a small fee that month(7€ I think) but not every month. You are paying for the staffs wages not the service. I did have to visit the bank once after I,d opened it because I didnt have "transfers" and was told it wasnt part of the standard setting up so that was added (like an extra contracted service) but at no cost or fee for adding it).I needed it for paying workmen, builders etc.
Give it some thought.

Pauline.
