Hi there

I have never driven in Spain before but would like to hire car when we visit in may.

Are the roads busy/difficult to navigate for a 1st timer?

Also, I can't seem to find a car rental under £350, is this normal price?

Yes cars are expensive to hire that time of year especially as hire companies are trying to recuperate losses from the pandemic as regards to driving  I normally stay on main roads I find it easier as the towns seem to be pretty busy hope this helps.

The roads are far better than in the UK. Less traffic. The car hire prices have gone through the roof in the last few months. 2 causes - Pandemic and shortage of microchips, so less new cars available. We have paid as little as 5 euros a day and a maximum of 12 euros a day pre pandemic. We are booked to come on April 19th, flights 160 euros for 2, Car Hire at the moment (we haven't booked it yet) 300 euros. We may cut our losses and not bother with the trip due to the car hire prices.

Hope this helps

You have my sympathy. I have just been quoted 1800 euros by Gold Car and Ryanair told me there are no cars available for late April and May.

Wow Janet, that is unbelievable!

I've gone with a transfer now, and booked a Carrefour supermarket delivery for my groceries.

We are just back from 7 weeks in Fortuna. We went by ferry as the car hire prices are crazy. Would have cost us over £2000 for the smallest car. We are now considering buying a car in the UK and storing it at Alicante airport. It's strange and the only reason for buying in UK is I can drive that but not a hire car.🙄 The ferry is much cheaper but that last trip was just too much driving for us. Also I think Brittany ferries are taking longer than before.

Hi roads are much better in Spain than U.K. so easy enough to drive.  Car hire is really expensive at the minute.  I think they are trying to recoup what they lost during Covid and they don’t have as many cars available which means they charge more for what they have.
