Having been away from our holiday home for 21 months (until last week), we hadn't realised until friends who live in Spain told us, that there are now different rated electricity tariffs during different times of the day.

The time ranges I believe are as follows  - Weekdays  - Midnight to 8am Off peak  - 8am to 10am Mid Peak - 10am to 2pm Peak - 2pm to 6pm Mid Peak - 6pm to 10pm Peak and 10pm to Midnight Mid Peak

Weekends and Bank Holidays are all Off Peak

I am not sure how much difference there is in cost re the different time zones, however I intend to put our electric water heater so that it is only on during the lowest tariffs. (Especially avoiding the peak hours)

Hope this helps

We juggle our electric usage to fit in with the new tariff times.

Once you get used to the times it works ok for us.

As a holiday home owner myself one of the big benefits of these new tariffs is the reduction in standing charge.

Our monthly standing charge with no electricity usage has dropped from around 15 euro to 9.50 euro.

I live here full time and keep to the tariff zones. I only do 2 washes at the week end. Have no electric shower or heating, don't use the hair dryer straightners or iron. Kettle is only on a couple of times a week yet our last 2 bills have been over €100 for a 2 bed which is over 50 more in the summer months when we had the fans going. Its ridiculous. I have no key to open the meter to check the readings, the glass is so scratched I can't see through it. Emailed them but just get fobbed off.

@Sunnyspain

Is your meter box a standard one ?

If so you can buy a key for a few cents of use a pair of pointed nose pliers to open it.

The new tariffs didn’t work for us as we’re retired. They are designed for those working.
Our electric bill shot up when they came in, even though we did all the washing, etc in the cheapest times, but as we were home during the dearest periods all the other electrical stuff worked against us. Therefore, we got Iberdrola to put us back onto the old tariff. Our bills immediately dropped. Not back to where they were before, due to energy price increases, but substantially.

All you need to do is ask them and they’ll convert you back the same day.

Thanks but we are with Nordic. Our neighbours with Iberdrola bill was 46 October as opposed to ours at 111 and we are both careful. She is on the new hours too. We are looking at swapping back.

Our last months bill 36 euro for 2 bed Rebecca - live in full time, have pellet burner on in the morning and evening, cook meals and do regular washing - on night plan with Iberdrola, very happy.
