Do you need an international drivers permit to hire a car at the airport?
No, not if you have a full valid UK or EU driving licence.

Thank you for your reply. I have a full valid UK license. Its a bit confusing, as I thought you didn't need one. Have just booked car and they say you need one! Am I taking a chance not getting one?

You don't need an IDP to drive in Spain. Various relatives & I have hired cars recently and have never been asked for one.
Who have you hired with and is this in 'the small print'? Does it say something like 'if required'?
