Of course he can get any treatment, the key thing is on what basis? Is he a pensioner in the UK, in which case he can deregister with the NHS in the UK and get treatment under the Spanish equivalent. If younger than that you are looking at nneding to pay as you go, or take out health insurance. More facts will help the good folk on here give better advice.

Hi thanks

Yes he's a pensioner we were just worried about getting access to tests and the warfarin for him when we come over as we.ll need to rent while we buy as our property here is going to fund our move. We both need regular medication and intend to bring plenty with us.  I'm not a pensioner yet so would expect to pay.

Many thanks

Janet

If your husband is a pensioner you can get covered as his dependent....first one to qualify by age gains the rights for both. My OH retired at 60 and I was accepted as her dependent until I reached 65 nearly five years later.

PLEASE take my advice. DONT BUY. What you should do is rent for 6 months. Then you will know if its for you or not.

I got a bad bite from something on a friday night. And was in a lot of pain on the Saturday and could hardly walk, went to the medical centre in Mazarron on saturday morning, and refused to let me see a doctor. They said in baf english that i eould have to go the the medical center in port mazarron.  I said ok.  Then they said not open till Monday. So if you have a problem with your health. I wouldnt risk coming here. Your a lot safer in UK.

Whilst I agree that renting first is the way to go, I disagree with the criticism of the health service. Firstly a bite is an urgent problem, so Urgecias at the nearest hospital is the place to go. Secondly why on earth should you expect staff to speak to you in English? Either get on with learning Spanish and/or take an interpreter with you.

There is a telephone translation service in the Andalucian health service, perhaps there is one here? If you are going to live here it surely is your responsibility to find ways to make yourself understood and vice versa!

H I Robbie

Fortunately I've spent a lot of years living abroad through being any army wife and yes we did have back up from the army but we blended in with the local community so I'll be giving it my best in Spanish just as I did in German when I lived there I'm under no illusion that there will be challenges but that's part of the adventure.  So long as I can get the basics for my husband that's all that matters cheers

Just wanted to add, I too take warfarin (heart failure and erratic arrythmia) and as a non resident bring my supply from home, but on many occassions have extended my stay and bought warfarin from several differrent farmacias without any problem. I take my box and without any confusion regarding language, get exactly what I need. Warfarin here are so cheap, about 3€for 120. However, my other medications ran €10-15 for a months supply. I havent bothered with blood tests because my INR and dose has remained relatively stable for a long period and although I overstayed 2 extra months last year it was close to my last reading in UK when I went home. So dont worry if you dont get organised immediately when you arrive, just buy from pharmacy and dose at his latest prescription.(it cant change that much and dont miss a single dose.).Hope this helps as you will have much to sort out and this needn't be a worry. Good luck for your move.
