We recently moved here, and the other ex pats have nothing but praise for the health system here.   You would have to hire an interpreter if you go to hospital. There is an English speaking GP in Fuente Alamo too.

As for being a lot safer in the UK -huh! My sister's lifespan was considerably shortened, due to medical negligence by her local NHS trust.

PLEASE take my advice. DONT BUY. What you should do is rent for 6 months. Then you will know if its for you or not.

I got a bad bite from something on a friday night. And was in a lot of pain on the Saturday and could hardly walk, went to the medical centre in Mazarron on saturday morning, and refused to let me see a doctor. They said in baf english that i eould have to go the the medical center in port mazarr...

...on.  I said ok.  Then they said not open till Monday. So if you have a problem with your health. I wouldnt risk coming here. Your a lot safer in UK.

Take note there is always some people will knock the service in fact the Spanish health care is better then the uk nhs

And I have lived in both country’s for a longggggggg time

Is Medical centre in Mazarron the closest where you can see a doctor ? What if you just have a bad cold ? You still have to go to the emergency room ?

I’m on warfarin and I have bought a

Roche coagucheck and test it myself

This is how I have my INR tested in the uk. These machines are not rolled out nationally yet but will be soon. Been using it for years. You can buy one for £300. Then you just need the pricks and test strips.

Roche are based in burgess hill in Sussex and you can buy one yourself.

Your coagulation team will tell you more

I know some people have to take warfarin itself for specific clinical reasons, but you should ask your British doctor if you can be converted to one of the newer type of anticoagulants, which doesnt need any monitoring - you might have to see the anticoagulant nurses just once after starting the tablets to check that you’re getting on ok with them, but it would be SO much easier than INR checks.......just a thought.

This is correct.

One of the drugs is called riveroxobon.

Not sure what the other one is called. What I do know is that they work on the platelets of the blood differently than warfarin.

Also work noting is with warfarin, if you’re INR is high and you need to lower it in an emergency you can get a vitamin K injection to lower it so you’re blood will obviously clot quicker.

Not so sure what would happen with these other drugs as there is no way of measuring INR as of yet

Like you say, you’d need to speak to your coagulation team

You can see a doctor on Camposol A at the Medical Centre.
