I think it all depends what you're looking for really. Property prices in Mar Menor and Murcia are cheaper than the rest of Spain, this is because it's mainly an agricultural area and not so sophisticated as say the Costa del Sol. The Murcia region is very traditional and young Spaniards leave to seek work elsewhere. Around Lo Pagan the shops are boarded up and the buildings seem empty. There are lots of urbanisations with new build homes which attract foreign tourists and ex pats, mainly pensioners. Flooding is a problem, the drainage system doesn't seem to be able to cope with heavy rain. The best thing would be to rent first before you commit to buying. As previously mentioned, Altea and Denia are lovely, also Cartagena and Murcia town are both vibrant towns. Good luck with your search!

Thanks very much for answering so promptly. I know its a beautiful area with beautiful beaches but the flooding would really concern me. We are going to Los Alcazares in a few weeks but I'll keep my searches to properties unlikely to flood.
Thanks again.

Hi Julie,
You are welcome; that sounds like a very sensible way to proceed.
Very Best,
