Are we correct in thinking our next step is to set up a mortgage with a Spanish bank? If so, how do we do this? Can anyone give me ‘an idiot’s guide’?!
Finally, I have been told we need to get an NIE number - I can I do this from the UK? Some sites say this needs to be obtained independently, others say the estate agents do this for us.
Many thanks in advance!

You have to take into consideration the following:-
If you have a pension, then to pay your Spanish Mortgage there is the exchange rate to consider whereas, if you took an equity
release, then this would be paid in UK £ before the balance could be sent to Spain.
The interest rate in the UK and Spain. Obviously the UK has a reasonable rate at present but this may change after Brexit.
Because you have a property in the UK, then this could be used as collateral.
The politics of the Spanish system.
You can use a UK/English speaking Solicitor/ Banker/Mortgage advisor.
