Hi there,

From Alicante (the bus station or airport), you can get the bus or train to Murcia and change to another bus. The bus is easier because the railway station isn't near the bus station and is a bit of a walk across town.

From Murcia you can get the bus directly to the bus station in El Puerto de Mazarron. It's pretty cheap... the tickets won't exceed 20 euros for the two trips. Probably less.. Can't recall exactly. Depending on the connexions, each journey is about an hour. There are plenty of nice cafes around the Murcia bus station if you need to wait.

From Vera, I think the best route by bus will be via Lorca. I don't think there is a direct service.

The train routes in the Murcia region are being upgraded and that work will take a few years. The previous rail links to Mazarron were Lorca and Totana and both stations are closed to trains atm...

The taxi from Alicante - if you use a trustworthy one - should be no more than 150 euro. You could do train to Murcia city and from their train to Cartagena. Bus from there to the Port. Cheap 3 ish euro but run only every 2 or 3 hours. Depending on your finances and size of party , I would recommend taxi....hour and three quarters compared to 5 or 6 ish by other options.

Yes, via Cartagena is a perfectly possible route as you suggest.... and perhaps why it's taking you 5 or 6 hours by public transport. From Alicante, going via Cartagena means an extra leg in the journey. The only reason it could be necessary is that the last bus to PDM from Cartagena goes at 9:30pm rather than half eight from murcia.

Having navigated the Murcia bus routes for quite a number of years, the quickest and easiest route from Alicante to PDM is definitely by bus via Murcia.

Example journey:

9am bus from Alicante bus station to Murcia bus station gets in a bit after 10. (That's the service by Alsa.)

By the time you've had a wee, bought your ticket and had a coffee, you'll be on the...

11am bus to the Port. This one is run by Interbus and, on a good day you'll rock into the port at not much after noon.

Double-check this, but summer 2022 bus times are:

Alicante bus station - Murcia bus station (these are the fast buses, one route goes all round the houses and is best avoided.)

9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm 2:15pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm (there are earlier and later ones, of course but these are the best for onward connexions)

Murcia bus station to El Puerto de Mazarron bus station:

9am, 11am,1pm, 2pm 4:30pm, 6pm, 8:30pm.

Best RT
