Hi there. We have a holiday home in Puerto de Mazarrón and it’s a nice place to be. We are in Bahia and there are Lots of shops,
Restaurants & bars .beach and Marina just across the toad. Public transport is not to bad , we have a bus station in the port. Would not say buses are very frequent but they do run more or less to time . Good luck with your search .

Further to the other comments...if you want to live in "England with sunshine' look at Camposol. However a car is a necessity as there is virtually no public transport. We live in PdM permanently and do not have a car. Public transport is perfectly adequate though I do think the bus drivers do not concern themselves with punctuality!!! The bus fares are ridiculously cheap (3.75 euros to Cartagena, 5 euro to Lorca). From Cartagena you can travel by train to almost anywhere..again cheap fares. The only point to bear in mind is to always allow extra time for any appoinents you may have or connecting plane/bus/trains as you cannot really on any bus being on time!

Hi Debbie
I agree with Terry11 with regards to punctuality! I've been living in El Alamillo full time for the past 6 months without a car and have used the buses on and off, they can be a bit hit and miss. Getting my groceries home has been the bain of my existence! That said, it depends on your priorities, I chose El Alamillo because I wanted to be in a detached house with private outside space within reach of the port, but if transport links are your priority, I would go for a location as close as possible to the main bus station in the port.
The buses seem to be a bit more reliable when going to or from a larger destination. With some companies you can book online and in that case, they HAVE to be there to pick you up! The three main companies I have used are ALSA, Martinez, and Interbus. Martinez is the 'urban' bus, whereas ALSA and Interbus are the coach services. I've been able to get to both Corvera and Alicante airports with a combination of online pre-booked tickets from Interbus and ALSA, although be aware that for Corvera airport this involves a pick up at Pyramide not the station in the port, I haven't risked getting buses to depart from ALC only on return to Spain, which involves an Interbus route from Alicante Airport to Murcia city bus station, where there's a 2 hour wait for a connecting Interbus to PDM, there are a few cafes etc in the bus station but not the best of part of town to venture out into during the wait (although there is a luggage storage facility if choose to!). Getting to Cartagena, Murcia and Mazarron from PDM main station is fairly reliable, but if you book online all the better.
PS. re: groceries, you can always get these delivered via Carrefour online, Consum also deliver, as do La Plaza del Dia, I'm just a bit of a foodie and enjoy perusing the plethora of supermarkets in the port haha.
Good luck with your search, happy days :)

Thank you libelula! That's very helpful information we are coming over for a week at the end of February. Like you we want some outside space so will look at El Alamilo. I notice that there is quite a lot of new properties being built can you tell me where these are and if they are worth considering? Thanks for your input it's all very useful.

Certainly can't knock the council for providing the cycle lane, it's wide and well marked. It would be great if they would ALL use them, especially the very fast electric bikes and scooters!
The Lidl in the vynil clad structure was a temporary store.
They moved there knocked the old Lidl down and built the new one
