Can anyone tell me the best way to transport a cat from the north of Scotland to Spain
We are looking at doing exactly the same from Scotland.
We don't want to put them in the hold of the aircraft, so possibly 2 options.
Drive them across taking breaks on the way
Or
I've heard with some airlines it's possible to have them on your knee in a carrier in the cabin, but most likely would have to travel from Manchester to get the airlines that do it.

Had a quote from a from Pet Air UK telling me it could be done from Glasgow but it will cost over £1200
That's terrible! Makes it worth taking a drive and enjoying the trip. I presume that's putting them in the hold too?

£300 of that is a charge for handling it at Alicante airport

Thomas Cook fly from Glasgow to Alicante. According to their website you can bring a cat into the cabin as long as it's less than 6kgs.
I haven't looked into it any further than this yet, but would suggest giving them a call to find out. Got to be cheaper than 1200!
That info may be out of date though

Use a proper registered pet courier service if you do not want to do this yourself. It will not cost you over 1000 pounds sterling, that is ridiculous.I did this as part of my business before I retired ,even when quarantine was operating, but nearly always by air.My own breeding stock which included parrots have been transported so I know how well it works. If you go by air they are in correctly monitored facilities &,of course, will be at the destination in a short time.Overland just make sure that all your documents are in order as some state the date that you must cross the channel. This was often a problem going back into the UK as British authorities didn't seem to realise that it is a long trip from southern Spain upto the port & did not allow sufficient time from the Vet's clearance stamp. My business years past had to pick up the ex-wife's pets of a well known Scottish Glasgow comedian from Alicante when they came in from Scotland.Fortunately we were able to fix it but the Glasgow end failed to send the correct rabies documents with her dogs & cats.I know your pet is precious so make sure you get it right, you cannot expect the authorities to bend the rules.

Hello,
We have just moved to Spain in December. My misses cat was brought over in the car, but in a dog crate with her litter and bed, she was checked over before coming by the vet and was provided sedation that we would administer throughout the drive if she got restless, however she only had a small amount to start the journey, she was then perfect the whole way slept and ate.
I hope this helps

Hi, I have just flown my two cats from Manchester to Alicante last week. Two separate cat carriers in the hold. I dealt directly with [email protected] at Manchester airport. £439 for the two and I also had to pay import duty at Alicante of 76euros when I picked them up. They flew alone and it was no problem organising. Obviously they had their pet passports and a fit to fly examination day with the vet the day before. PM me if you want any more details.
