Mags44 obviously does lots of business with Sabadell bank.

Credit cards house and contents insurance etc.

That's why they have no charges.

However going by lots of posts on here insurance products from any of the banks are notoriously bad value when it comes to paying out for claims.

Thanks Roland. Still as helpful as ever! I know you from Camposol where I used to live. Keep on posting!

Thank you Mags for your experience with Sabadell. I wonder why other people mention charges.  I think I will look into it and give them a visit and see first hand but great to get everyone's comments.

We are paying extortionate charges with Sabadell. Its because we're not resident in spain.

We intend to stop using them soon now that we've paid for our house.

If you use them I would keep an eye on your account as they've charged us for things in error. They also led us to believe there would be no charges for paying money in and then they charged us 109 euros because we paid in more than 50k from a UK account (our Revolut account). If we'd known we were going to be charged this we would have used the currency exchange company but she reassured me to my face that there would be no charges.

We would not recommend them.

We use Sabodell and providing we put 700€ a month in we don't get charged unless we overdraw. Hope this is helpful.

That’s what they told me which was the case at first. Then after a while they suddenly started making charges. They said it’s because I don’t have any of their products!

What I dislike is that, even when you make an appointment to see someone, they still discuss your business in the bank at the counter, in front of all the others who are queuing up and fed up with doing so. What happened to privacy and security?

The queues in the Port Mazarron branch are often outside stretching down the road and they have ONE person serving, despite one or two other staff members ‘swanning ‘ around doing nothing. I heard one Spanish client calling them ‘the ornaments’!!

That use to be the case, now they are changing their "arraignments" with customers.  You may also find they will NOT tell you.  If you don't have  a savings account, investments??, or insurance with them they are going to start charging.  Previously anyone who had a Spanish Pension paid into their account they would wave any fees but now your Spanish (not British etc!!) pension must be a certain amount (can't remember the minimum amount) they are going to change their banking charges.  Like most if not all of the banks now they are going to start charging all customers who do not take out one of their insurance facilities or does not have a reasonable Spanish pension going int the account each month.  Sabadell does not tell you when it is changing it charging amount or agreement, they just do it and then it takes a complaint to the CEO's office for them to back down.  Like most banks in Spain their customer service is awful.

I don’t think they know what customer service means.

We are with sabadell and the only way we avoided charges was to take out a cheap dental insurance but I believe things are changing again shortly but don't know any further details yet

Hi all.

I am considering changing to Sabadell as I am moving and it will be my local bank.  Does anyone have any thoughts, good and bad to share that may affect my decision. I suppose it is also about the staff, how helpful . Also their charges.

Thank you so much in advance.

We used to have an account with Sabadell but their charges for just a standard bank account were just too high. Used to pay €35 per quarter for running the account plus another €20 for use of debit cards - so €160 per year for the privilege of letting them have my money - not a good deal on my side!

If you are going to be in Spain, why not look into N26 or Wise.com - I have both accounts and find them excellent.

I use Wise.com to transfer Sterling into Euro and have my N26 account for general everyday use (all online, excellent app all in English) but also have GBP and EURO accounts with Wise. I also have a Revolut account as I can hold GBP and Euro in that and also do currency transfers.

I have never had an issue with either N26 or Wise and used the N26 switching service to move from Sabadell to N26 which was very easy.

Hope you find this useful.
