I'm moving to Requelme asap. Wanting to know the best way to pay for goods and services . Opened a bank account at Cajamar in Sucina in February 2020.  But wasnt given a debit card . Does anyone know if I would get one so I dont have to just use cash?

Thanks. Any advice much appreciated.  ...

Hi Angie

I too have Cajamar online account "wefferrent" which took me weeks of researching all spanish banks to find one that was fee free for non residents. I even wrote a seperate post in Banking "fee free spanish bank acount for non residents"  because I kept getting so many private messages after replying to posts recommending them.

The debit card was ready 2 weeks after opening to collect from branch and is mentioned on the paperwork which we received, both in spanish and english. I should think its in your branch waiting for collection. We hardly use our cards(like to pay cash) usually 4/5 cash withdrawals, twice a year over 90days and it pays out 6 direct debits and have never been charged a fee, couldnt recommend them higher.

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Pauline.

Thanks so much for that. I dont know what account I've got? I've been given passwords for telephone banking and on line. But not logged on to them yet.

Thanks again .

Hi, we have had a cajamar account for 16yrs. Like all Spanish banks they are slow to contact you at branch level. However the web site is very informative and has the benefit of having a translation of terms/conditions in English. There is an annual charge for not using your debit card. Most questions that you may have are answered. As far as I can remember They also have the benefit of contacting them by email from the web site

You will probably have to sign to accept the terms and conditions. The bank gets its bit from the fees paid by traders when you use the card, so of course they will charge you if you do not use them a certain amount of times, usually 15 Euros per quarter for underusage. Cash withdrawls do not count.

I have an account with La Caixia but it a non residents account and in my experience banks give you nothin so you will pay a yearly fee anyway for having the card and also a quarterly fee for having the account whether you go into debit or not.

No such thing as free banking in Spain even if they offer that later you will find something on your statement which will be for something.

But you will be able to get a debit card but will have to ask for it to answer the question you asked

There is such a thing as free banking in Spain.

Cajamar Wefferent account is totally free & includes a debit card.

Transferwise Borderless account is also free to operate & includes a debit card.

Cajamar wefferant or whatever I think is for residents only and the transferwise borderless I am in the process of opening but it really is not a Spanish account if you want to pay no charges you need to open it as at a UK address and they give you a UK account and a euro account which is based in Belgium You can use the card to take money out withoput charge but limited to an amount and you use the card for free but if you register it at a Spanish adrress you will be charged and taxed
