I’m still hoping to buy with a view to living in Spain not to have a second / holiday home so the 180 day ruling is something I have to think about

But thank you for your commen

If you wish to buy and live here permenantly why should the 90/180 day ruling really bother you?

Has anyone been questioned about exceeding the permitted 90/180 day ruling?  How do they monitor your stay?  I just can’t see the Spanish giving two hoots about visitors overstaying their welcome.  They need all the income they can get off us brits.

It's all very well to be able to come for 90 days BUT our annual travel insurance has a 45 day maximum trip. We could return to the UK for a day and fly back again a day later!

However, I haven't actually checked how long our house insurance in the UK would allow the property to be unoccupied and I strongly suspect that it's even less than 45 days.

I voted to stay because this and many other things were so obvious, if anyone really considered their vote and refused to believe the drivel on the bus saying the NHS would get all that money.

True.

We all make mistakes in our lives that we have to live with unfortunately.

I think you'll find the same conditions applied to travel insurance and house insurance long before Brexit! Time limits on travel insurance has always decreased as age increases unfortunately. You could of course stay without any insurance as it's not compulsory, but personally I wouldn't do that. When/if travel resumes to what it used to be, I'll work within the limits of my policy, and I'll be grateful that I can get a way for a break.

I do wish members of this forum, particularly those of you have chosen Spain as their permanent home and country, would stop bleating on about the Brexit result. PeterC seems obsessed with it!

I think it might be time for the moderator of this forum to put a ban on discussing it, as it is what is, and we can't change history!

Maybe you don't like reading comments about Brexit because you voted for it and are now regretting your decision but Brexit has affected all our lives and should be openly discussed whenever necessary. It's no use sticking your fingers in your ears and humming loudly. It's really not going well for anyone!

Couldn" agree with you more Mags.

However, i do not stick fingers in my ears, i get on with my decisions right or wrong.

The old saying comes to mind make your bed, lie in it.

Yes we were lied to, big time, and yes it is affecting everyone but i everyone has hurdles to cross, its finding ways to do that which is the challenge .

If your not up for a challenge, never consider dreaming of retiring to spain.

Or are you one of the pack of people who have had it easy here for years, and are now regretting some of your decisions not to apply for residency.

If you had residency here 3 months wouldn't matter i believe.

...or anyone!

How I voted in a democratic UK vote on EU membership is my business and a discussion on this thread about Brexit is not what the OP asked for. A question was asked regarding taking a risk on staying longer than the allowed time in an EU country. I thought the question a bit naive in 2022 as everyone knows where everyone is these days. Passport control; mobile phone; spending on C cards are just three examples. The penalties for breaking the law is well documented!

I don't want to get into any debate about the Brexit result. If you and others who raise it at every opportunity want a thread on Brexit, why not ask the owner of this forum to put one up. You can then discuss your moans, or praise the outcome without the rest of us having to read it, who like me, think it's all over.

Please don't assume how I voted or imply I have regrets, all unnecessary and rather stupid. If you're a resident in Spain, why don't you just enjoy it and stop worrying about something you cannot change!

Well said.

And yes we are enjoying it, and we voted too.

What way was our right to choose, as is your life.

Just live it, and be thankful we have the opportunity still to do so.

No, I've been legally here for 39 years and followed ALL the rules - and I didn't get a vote on my own future either but it's those whose future dreams have been shattered that make me sad!

"Absolutely. Never was a Brexit fan." Nor me.

I have yet to see any statement that identifies one single benefit to the UK from Brexit - not one!

Belive it or not there is a minister for brexit opportunities (that guy who speaks as if you are all thick). Yes I know you could not make it up as they say!
